Starcher-Pettay Field Update

Starcher Pettay Field continues to get worked on to recover from Hurricane Irma.  All of our volunteers and parents in the league has made this process move much faster than it would normally.  However, many items at the field are county owned or controlled.  We do our best with what we can.  Here is an update on the big items at the field.

Concession Stand:  The county continues its work on the interior of the concession stand.  We have utilized donations from various vendors to upgrade the interior of the stand.  This includes cabinets and counter tops.  We also plan on making the second floor a meeting and administration space instead of storage.  This should help keep the building clean and usable.  Because we hope to have a more advanced concession and meeting space, we are looking to add AC to the building.  This will be a negotiable item with the county and depending on what we can have donated.  What we do not have at this moment is a definite list of appliances to put in the concession.  We will be needing chest freezer, ice machine, beverage cooler, refrigerator or some combination of those.  If anyone is in the restaurant business that can offer advice, please let us know.

Scoreboard:  This is a major let down.  As most of you know, we pushed hard to raise money and put up a brand new scoreboard.  Last year it was installed at the cost of $10k.  We raised $5k of it with donations and then NNLL paid the remaining $5k.  Now, the same company is quoting us $15k to fix it.  This includes electrical, pilings and scoreboard.  That's hard to swallow as you can imagine.  We are currently asking around to see if we can't find a large donor to replace (with advertising of course) or folks in the business to fix the current scoreboard.

Bathrooms:  Yes, we know that power to the bathrooms has been intermittent.  This is because when they work on the concession, they cut the power and we cannot get it back on at night.  We have been assured, this will no longer happen, but if it does, we will be installing battery powered lights in the bathrooms.
